COMMITMENT

Please note that scheduling, managing, and maintaining a fully booked music studio is a full-time business for me and I ask that you please respect the following policies. Thank you so much!

My yearly studio schedule goes from September through August.  The studio year contains 36 private lessons over that 12 months time. A prorated number of lessons is figured for those beginning after September or stopping before the end of August. However, each student's schedule may have more lessons scheduled over the course of the year to accommodate any lessons canceled due to inclement weather (i.e., Snow Days, PWCS Code Red) or sickness. If the extra lessons are not needed they will still be taught and also depending on family schedule. My studio calendar follows the Prince William County Schools calendar, which means when there is no school, there are no lessons with the exception of Summer Break and teacher workdays. A student/parent may always see their personal lesson schedule by logging on to their account via this website.  I am currently offering virtual or in person lessons Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Lessons cancelled by the student/parent with a minimum of 24 hours notice will be recorded as an "absence, make-up credit given."  A make-up time will be offered for that lessons at a later date as time allows, but is not guaranteed.  Lessons cancelled by the student for any reason with less than 24 hours notice or forgotten lessons will not be given a make-up credit.  Make-up lessons may not be taken during months the student has suspended or stopped lessons.  Snow days and days cancelled for inclement weather are accounted for in the studio schedule and are not given make-up credit.  No refunds, monetary credits, or pro-rations will be given for missed or cancelled lessons.

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITIES

Students are strongly encouraged to take part in the studio recitals and masterclasses.  These are great ways for the student to put into practice all they have been working on in a supportive performance setting.  In addition, students may also inquire about additional local, state and national  competitions and other enrichment activities.

SUSPENDING OR STOPPING LESSONS

A 30 day written notice is required for stopping or suspending lessons.  If less notice is given, the student is still responsible for full tuition of the remainder of the year.  If students needs to suspend their lessons and wants to guarantee their spot again for the next school year, e.g. summer vacation, the full tuition is due for the time they will be taking off.  Once lessons have been suspended or stopped, any make-up lesson credits will be lost.

PARTICIPATION EXPECTATIONS FOR STUDENTS

 Students are expected to:

· Ask questions and try your best!

· Practice five days a week so you make notable progress in your pieces.

· Be prepared for lessons (with all books, assignment book, materials).

· Keep fingernails trimmed short (should not extend past the end of the finger).

· Turn off cell phones during lessons.

· Participate in performance workshops, recitals.

PARTICIPATION EXPECTATION OF PARENTS

While most students are initially excited to begin lessons, please be aware that they will face challenges and sometimes frustrations. As the initial enthusiasm is replaced by an awareness of the discipline and commitment required to attain skills, your encouragement and praise will be essential to your child’s success. Set aside a scheduled practice time for your child. It is important to budget time for practicing and to make it happen as a part of his or her daily routine. For example, you and your child might decide that each day after her afternoon snack she will practice for 30 minutes or that from 7-7:45am is her practice time. Many families report that practicing before school works well for them. Please supervise home practice sessions, making sure your child completes each assignment. Many children are not disciplined enough yet to manage practicing without your support.

Piano Students: You must have a piano or full-sized keyboard with 88-weighted keys, foot pedal and a bench at proper height in your home. A piano is strongly recommended as nothing can take the place of its touch and sound. If you have an acoustic upright or grand piano it should be tuned twice a year. Maintaining your acoustic piano is important. I can recommend a piano tuner/technician. A humidifier in the room with the acoustic piano helps to keep the instrument in tune for longer lengths of time. The piano should be located in a well-lit place that allows practicing to be done with as few distractions as possible (TV and other siblings).
